VW Camper Van - An immaculately restored 1967 VW Type 2 camper is set to go under the hammer at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, and could sell for as much as £90,000.
The left-hand drive microbus is one of the highly-desirable T1 or “Splittie” models – named after its split windscreen.

This particular Type 2 landed in the UK as a “rust-free, ex California” example, and was without an engine. While the van was sold as “rust-free”, it was decided that it would need extensive bodywork restoration.
The interior was refurbished to the owner’s specification, and includes features such as a custom sound system with speakers below the seats, a DVD player and a head unit with internet connection.
Electrical power is supplied by two batteries housed beneath the bed, while there is also a 240-volt mains connection and split charging system.
Although orginal T1 vans made use of the same rear-mounted 1.2-litre engine from the VW Beetle, this particular camper is powered by an uprated 2,030cc engine, which is mated to a specially-made Freeway Flyer gearbox manufactured by Bears Motorsport of Dudley.
While the Type 2 might sell for roughly the same price as a V8 Jaguar F-Type R, don’t expect similar levels of performance, as the engine only produces 100bhp.
The restoration took four and a half years to complete, and the VW camper van has been on the road since 2013. In that time, it has covered just 1,800 miles.
